One Nation, Under God…
Our newly inaugurated President Trump, seems to always ends his addresses to the public with these powerful words, “Thank you, may God Bless you, and God Bless America.”
I find myself both grateful and hopeful that we have a leader that places God back into our great nation. There was a time that we were made to feel that God wasn’t important or or even invited into the administrative decisions and actions being made and I’m glad this is no longer the case. President Trump reminds us to trust in God and I personally find that very comforting.
I would like to share a prayer for our nation with you. May you find as much peace and comfort through these words, as I have:
For the Nation
Almighty God, you have given us
this good land for our heritage.
We humbly ask you
that we may always prove ourselves
a people mindful of your favor
and glad to do your will.
Bless our land with honorable endeavor,
sound learning, and pure manners.
Save us from violence, discord,
from pride and arrogance,
and from every evil way.
Defend our liberties
and fashion into one united people
the multitude brought here
out of many nations and tongues.
Endow with the Spirit of wisdom
those to whom, in your name,
we entrust the authority of government,
that there may be justice and peace
and that through obedience to your law
we may show forth your praise
among the nations of earth.
In time of prosperity
fill our hearts with thankfulness,
and in the day of trouble
do not allow our trust in you to fail.
We ask all of this through Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.†
One of the greatest things about the United States of America’s government system, in my opinion, is the peaceful change of power at the end of a presidential term. Every 4 or 8 years, at the consensus of the people, the current president steps down from office and hands over the reigns to the new president-elect. We, the people, are privileged to be a part of our own election process. There are many countries in the world that don’t have the same practices. In these such dictatorships, once in power, always in power until someone stronger overthrows you. What a scary thought!
What I’m seeing in this country after the recent election is truly disturbing.
There seems to be a division among our nation, an unrest in some that do not have faith that President Trump is the right man (or woman) for the job. I urge the people of this great nation to take a moment to remember that our country is wonderful because of our differences. Our nation is great because of the governmental system put into place centuries ago. Yes, we even have the right to speak out when we don’t agree with something or someone. “Let freedom ring” has long been our country’s motto. But, with the protesting, destroying of property, and demonstrations of non-supportive actions toward our nations’ leaders and authority, we leave ourselves open to attack, both foreign and domestic.
Most people don’t like change. Change is scary.
Fear brings out the worst in some and with the recent exchange of presidential office in our government, the changes have been swift and mighty. The executive orders being signed by President Trump within the first 7 days of office were staggering. Emotions of American citizens are high. Some supporters are hopeful that the changes being made are truly the right track this country needs to “make America great again.” Some anti-Trump liberals are determined to undermine any decision being made in the White House. Others, are taking the patriotic approach, getting down to business as usual, and letting the system work itself out.
There are so many changes going on within the walls of the White House, that fear seems to be the winning emotion overriding some people’s good sense. We are seeing some act out with riots, protests, and general bad-mouthing of others. I urge you, if you are afraid of the outcome this presidential election has brought into play, to take a moment to pray about what truly scares you and ask God for guidance and protection.
God Bless America!
We need to work together, along with our President, to find a way to exist peacefully so that justice and liberty can continue to ring throughout the country. It is important that we show support for our President in both word and deed to ensure that we have the privilege to continue to live the “American Dream”. May you find peace and comfort in the days to come while the nation is in a constant motion of change.
May God bless you,
